For the Dream-Chasers: When God Tells You to Wait
Waiting in an action
Any other type A people out there like me? When I get an idea or have some sort assignment - especially one i’ve perceived to be from God, I run at top speed to accomplish it in all of it’s glory. Can you relate? I know I can. But I think sometimes we’re so busy running to act that we forget that waiting itself is an action.
I have many examples of this in my life; My business endeavors being a big one. but what i’ve learned through many a trial and error is that sometimes a vision or a dream from God may not be for right now but for a season that is yet to come and sometimes we also have to consider that a vision or dream may not even be from God.
One thing that I stand by that you can find in Isaiah 55:11 is that the reminder that God’s word will not return void. What He says will most certainly come to pass. If He’s made a promise or declaration over your life and has given you a dream or a vision (especially one that is backed by scripture!), it will come to pass if it is truly from God.
We do a good job of taking our own dreams and visions and attaching God to them when in reality those things were never a part of His master plan for us. If something doesn’t come to pass, it’s possible that it was never from God to begin with. It could also be possible that a promise, vision, or dream could be meant for someone later on in your lineage and not for you specifically. We see examples of this all over the old testament. A big example of this is found in the story of Abraham. God told Abraham he would be the father of many nations before he had even had a child with little hope that he and Sarah could ever conceive. God also told Abraham in Genesis 22:17 that his descendants would be more than the stars in the sky and she grains of sand on the seashore yet Abraham would die hundreds to thousands of years before any of this would come to pass.
God’s timing reins supreme
remembering that God’s timing is not our timing, we should be cautious with God’s timeline vs our own. If a word, vision, dream, etc. is from God, you can be certain it will come to pass, but not before it’s appointed time.
This topic has been heavy on my heart because i find myself getting what I believe to be instruction and revelation from God trough the Holy Spirit and the second I catch wind of what I believe He’s moving me towards, I go running after it and I tend to stop at noting until it’s been accomplished. But as i’ve mentioned above, i’ve been reminded that while these things may very well be God’s will for my life, I also have to keep His divine timing in mind as well. A good thing at the wrong time is no longer a good thing.
So if you have a dream, maybe you feel like God wants you to start a ministry or business, write a book, leave a current job for another, join a ministry, or any other number of things, consider that His timing is not our timing and if what He’s spoken over your life is truly His will, it will come to pass. Know also that you don’t have to act immediately.
Key takeaways:
Waiting is an action.
God is not a liar and his word will not return void. If he spoke something over your life, it will come to pass but only in His timing. Never ours.
Sometimes God may birth a dream or vision in you but maybe they’re not meant to come to fruition until a later time whether that be 6 months from now, years from now or further on down your lineage.
not every dream or vision is from God and we have to have a heart posture of surrendering the dream or vision to God continually for guidance.
