The time is now
Life is fleeting—know Jesus while there’s still time.
I thought it was just an ordinary Thursday. I woke up at the same time. I followed the same routine. Turned on my lights, went to the bathroom and prepared to take my dog out for the morning. I walked into the kitchen to greet my father who was already up and at-em for the day and was greeted with “your aunt Jerry died last night.”
You see, aunt Jerry was my great aunt and I didn’t know her very well. The last time I saw her was at our family reunion last year and while we didn’t talk, I had the privilege of singing “Jesus loves me” with her when she broke out in song. It was truly special to me. I may not have known my great aunt Jerry but God did. I could tell by her willingness to share Jesus that her and Jesus had a special relationship. And I was reminded that there’s so much more to life than the mundane that we normalize and sometimes even idolize every day.
The cares of this world will pass away one day, just as we will in truth pass away. How much we made or the brand of our clothing or even the status of our relationships and the like won’t last forever. And in the greater scheme of things, they don’t even matter. What matters is that we know Jesus because He is the owner of our salvation.
Learning of my great aunts passing is allowing me to take inventory of my life and resubmit it all unto the Lord because it’s of utmost importance to remain in the presence of the Lord. I want to know Him well and honor Him above all else, something I know my aunt Jerry knew.
I hope you will take this time to take inventory of your walk with Jesus and resubmit your all unto Him because He’s worthy and there is certainly no time to waste.
Verses to meditate on:
“For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:2.
“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.” - 2 Peter 3:8-10
